We’ve all been there. We’ve all struggled with taking good blog pictures. And it’s hard, These days, Not everyone can go out a buy a brand new £600 marble coffee table for a background, I know I can’t. Now a days blogging is a whole different ball game, Back in the day you could take your pictures in your mums front room on the flowery rug but the blogging world has changed and now it’s all about the perfect flatlays, White and marble backgrounds and the perfectly instagramable houses. Ahhh okay, So I’ve just uploaded my first youtube video! It’s not perfect, It’s a lil shakey but it’ll do! It’s a little ‘vlog’ from when we went to lanzarote last month. I’m still not sure how I feel about it as It is a little shakey which is annoying but my camera doesnt know the term ‘stable’.
So If you’re not following me on instagram (melia_may) then you won’t know that I’ve been in lanzarote for the past week, To be honest it’s all I’ve posted about. We flew out last Saturday early morning so we still had time to dump all our suitcases and stuff in the villa and go straight down to the pool to sunbathe. To be honest that’s all I’ve done all week. Got to make the most of the sun! It was so good to get away and have a little break away from work and just things in general and now that I’m back I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things, Especially my blog. Through-out the week I’ve also been filming little bits and pieces and I am hoping to be putting up a youtube video of my trip this week sometime. I’ve always wanted to get into youtube but have always been too scared, The thought of putting your self out there like that is kinda scary but recently I’ve been thinking more and more about it and decided this was a good opportunity to give it ago. In other terms, I thought ‘screw it, Why the hell not!?’
Also, Whilst I was in Lanzarote I picked up a few beauty products which I will be posting about soon with a review of each. Lanzarote is known for its aloe vera products so I thought it would be rude not to pick up a few bits. So for now I’ll leave you with a few pictures of the trip..I will update you when the video goes live! If anyone has any tips and advice on youtube please post below, I’d love to hear some!
I have been very busy this weekend. If you don’t know, I moved out a few months back so we are still adding stuff to our house to make it more like a home. It was feeling a little bare after we took all the christmas dec’s down so I got stuck in this weekend and did bit of DIYing. When we first moved in we were very kindly gifted a matching table and mirror from my aunty, Which was painted in grey chalk paint. I did like them that way however It wasn’t exactly my style so I went to B&Q this weekend and picked up some metallic gold furniture paint. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do apart from the fact I wanted to create a pattern on the table. I masked of a sorta geo pattern, (To be completely honest there was no planning I just stuck It on here, there and everywhere) until I was satisfied with it. I then gave the paint a little stir and painted away. I gave it just one coat because I wanted it to have a sort of rustic finish which Is what this paint is meant to do. It was really easy to work with and It dried super quick. Before It was dry I pulled the masking tape of because If It drys it may chip when you pull it off. It’s a little rough round the edges but I absolutely love how it turned out. It’s made a normal table into something different and eye-catching. It’s surprising what a tin of £5 paint can do! I do have a little tip if you want to try this yourself, I’d go over the design with masking tape twice because when I only did one, It seeped though and didn’t create really sharp lines, But I wasn’t really going for that look anyway. The next thing I wanted to revamp was my mirror which is above the fire place. I has planned on painted the whole thing gold, however I got half way round the frame and had a light bulb moment. I marked a line with masking tape each side, Making sure each one was in like with the other and painted up to that line. I actually love how it came out. I was so chuffed with it. It’s just changed the whole look of the room. I liked the gold that much I even painted a long mirror which was also gifted to me by a friend. It got to the point where Danny said ‘Is there anything else you want to paint gold?’ What can I say, It’s fun painting stuff.
So It’s out with the old and in with the new. 2016 is over and what a year its been. 2016 was a big year for me. I plucked up the courage to start a blog after many, many years of debating it. I remember not wanting to start one because I was too scared to tell anyone until one day my boyfriend encouraged me it was a good idea, So in January 2016 I started Melia May. It got off to a great start..I had so much support from my boyfriend (he was the only one that knew at the time) and not to forget the support from you guys. I didn’t think I’d even get 1 view let alone finish the year with 9,000 Views on my blog. However one thing I have learnt is it’s not all about views. It’s not all about how many people are following you on twitter or instagram, It’s whether you are truly enjoying it. Thats all that matters at the end of the day. However 2016 hasn’t been all good, It’s had its ups and downs, Don’t get me wrong the ups definitely out way the downs, But who goes through a whole year without something bad happening ? You are very lucky if you do. Another good thing this year has been Danny (My Boyfriend) starting up his own business (check out his instagram @rus_customs) We was a little apprehensive at first, who wouldn’t be when starting your own business?! But it’s actually been a really good year for him and it’s growing by the day. Oh and not to forget that we moved out together this year, Probably the one of the biggest things to happen in our lives and we did it! And to top the year off in spectacular style he asked me to marry him, of course I said yes! Who would have thought that when we was 15 years old that we would be sat here like an old couple in our own house and being engaged? crazy how life works. So yeah another year done and dusted. Now onto 2017!
I’m not one for all that ‘New year, New me’ Malachy, But I do have a few goals I’d like to work towards this year. It’s always nice to know you are working towards something. I only have two goals this year, Nothing special, nothing extravagant.
- Work on making my blog the best it could be. Create better, More regular content and spend more time preparing for blog posts. I’m like to think I’m organised but I’m not.
- Just be flipping’ happy. Stop worrying what others thinks, Just get on with what makes you happy and don’t waste time on things, Life is way to short to be doing stuff you don’t want to be doing. I know I know, cheesy but true.
One thing I have got recently that is going to help me with my blog and also with my useless organisation skills is The 2017 Blogger Journal that was created by COCOCHIC. Go check out her blog and youtube channel if you haven’t already heard of her. This Journal literally has everything you possibly need to stay organised. It has inspirational quotes, Monthly Statistics, Tips on blogging, A Monthly and yearly planner, basically just everything you need. I can’t wait to start using it.
So whatever you are working towards in 2017, just make sure you stay happy and remember what is important in life. The people you love and the people who support you though everything because I wouldn’t have been able to do what I did in 2016 if it wasn’t for the people around me. HAPPY. NEW. YEAR!!
So even though I am home eating a huge bar of Cadbury’s dairy milk and feeling sorry for myself, I thought it was about time I did Part 2 post of my holiday as I have a ridiculous amount of pictures I wanted to share on here. (Part 1 is here btw). So the last three days in wales went stupidly quick. On thursday we decided to visit Devils Bridge, I had searched for places to visit prior to the holiday as I wanted to see as much as I could so I knew it would be a good day out but I wasn’t expecting it to be quite as beautiful as it was. You get a little map before you enter, which takes you basically round in a big circle, Walking though beautiful woods, seeing amazing views from above the trees to standing right under the waterfall. They also had one of these…. I think i could definitely pull this outfit off, Right? Such a typical tourist arent I….
One thing I wasnt expecting was the steep steps. I’ve never see anything like it! I was hanging on to the railings for dear life whilst Danny bounced down the steps like they were nothing, also taking pictures of me in the process.
I have to say, The easy part was walking down all those steps as I was rather hard climbing back up, my legs hurt way too much the next day.
On friday, It was pretty much our last full day. We relaxed in the morning, Had a huge lie in, Then made the most of the swimming pool and jacuzzi before we left. As it was our last day, We decided to have one last walk on the beach. Theres something so peaceful about the beach where we were stopping. There was hardly any one around and you just kinda forgot about everything. Although one thing you had to watch out for was huge flipping’ rocks that a literally ankle twisters.
we decided that the best way to end the holiday was to have a cosy little movie night, So thats exactly what we did! nothing better than having a cosy movie night when the weathers crap outside and all you do is eat crisps and chocolate. A great end to a great holiday.
ooo PS. I have a new twitter dedicated to my blog and my daily life so check that out here. I think this means I’m ‘Down with the kids’?
